By J. B. Gauthier
So, I have owned this netbook for about a week now and I have had a chance to play with it. The first thing I did was to upgrade the RAM memory from 1GB to 2GB for a whopping $25 (Crucial module on Amazon). Very easy to install and a great improvement considering that the computer was running at about 80% of the installed capacity under regular use. Then I installed Quicken Deluxe 2011, Norton IS for Netbook and Microsoft Office Pro (student version - great deal from Microsoft at $79.95!, but you need a student in your household). Microsoft Office runs fine though I have not run complicated calculations. Outlook works seamlessly except that I was not able to make my Gmail account work properly with Outlook. Booting time is very fast with the installed basic version of Windows 7. Overall I am very happy. The computer chip is slow. Things take time to go from screen to screen (especially in Quicken) and you will NOT be able to stream videos (Netflix or CNN or the like) on this baby, but that is not what I bought it for. Battery life is excellent and weight is acceptable. Size is about the same as an iPad (surface wise), which means it will fit nicely in computer cases designed for the iPad (Caselogic and the like). I would recommend this machine without reservation at this stage.

Pros: First of all, this is a great netbook. It has an excellent battery and good software. I originally had an NC10 (which was also well-reviewed and very similar) and I was happy to have it, except I wanted something in black, not white.
The keyboard is amazing and easy to clean. The mousepad is large and intuitive. The webcam and microphone are well-placed and idiot-proof. The weight is perfect and the ability to wake on lid opening is perfection, too.
As far as software, Samsung has done a great job simplifying and installing only what you'll need for support, basic drivers and a few games. Luckily they don't go too far with antivirus (so I could install Avast) and they haven't modded Windows 7 into processor hell. As compared to Dell or Lenovo netbooks, which have bloated, always-on software. I also like the quickness of the bios and the charging port. Speakers are literally epic. Price is amazing, too.
Last but not least the purple branding is subtle and understated, leaving me happy to see it every time I turn on the computer.
Cons: I'm going to list them all, come what may. I think the battery life lies a little. 9 hours feels more like 5. The gloss black plastic is terrible for fingerprints and should have been more like the lenovo thinkpad products. The 1GB standard memory for almost every netbook is horrible and always requires more. Get 2GB.No re-installation media. No case. Movies can be run in the lowest resolution without a problem, but would be better in 360i. Bluetooth interface is NOT simple. No 3G.
Network backup for Windows 7 Basic is non-existant so make sure to switch to Cobian or something similar. The native Windows and Samsung backup both work on local partitions, which completely defeats the purpose. Backup to a network for best results with the least amount of effort.

By Sheila R.
I needed a more portable computer than my 14.1, and 15.4 laptops. So far I haven't had any problems, it does what I need it to do. I also like the design, it has a non-glare screen, chicklet style keyboard, and it is pretty speedy.
