There are a virtual cornucopia, nay even a plethora (both words are favorites of mine) of reasons why both Apple and Android are together on a very strong path towards rendering Windows little more than a sideshow in the operating systems business. And folks, notwithstanding retailers' bets that netbooks are all but obsolete -- trust me -- they aren't... And as consumers, we benefit on their incorrect bet, for their gamble means clearance sale prices on some hot netbooks!
Does anyone remember the promising GUI PC based operating system known a Geos, which was around briefly in the 1980s (I reveal my age and the fact that I am truly an "Old Skool" nerd... and for non-nerds, GUI was what us dinosaurs used to call operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh, the now universally accepted "point 'n click" operating systems that back around 1985 were quite novel and $$$ expensive $$$ to obtain for the average consumer family of Mom, Pop, Billy, Sally, Boots the Cat, and Rover the Hot Dog -- but they were virtually a must have, because Boots could not sleep without laying on the monitor and lazily gazing down at the fish swimming about in the "fishbowl" screen saver )? Even my Android's autocorrect doesn't know this word, Geos. My Android 2.3.3 based unit just autosuggested Held in place of Geos (I am painfully thumb typing this review on my HTC EVO since my daughter borrowed my beloved Acer Aspire netbook last night and I am not up to going upstairs to retrieve it). My point, longwinded as my getting to it is, that I hate using Swype on my EVO ... No, seriously, although I do hate Swype, my point is that despite retailers' lust for tablets and their belief that Windows 8 will be the better mousetrap, you just can't beat the Acer Aspire One netbook given its price, its awesome engineering, and out of the box functionality!
Out of the box with Windows 7 Home Professional, a very impressive (for a netbook) 4GB of RAM, a very respectable and fast 250 GB hard drive as well as a rather familiarly laid out 84 key keyboard, a multiple memory card reader, 3 USB 2.0 slots and a _standard size_ (not mini) HDMI slot, this netbook is ready for serious business or entertainment. Throw out your TIVO, ROKU, DVR, and maybe even the Blue Ray. Save the environment, stop buying plastic discs and download your entertainment even at HD 1080P quality so you can watchp 'em on the family's big screen flat panel lcd/led television that you bought with all the money you saved from cancelling your cable tv (in favor of Netflix, Amazon. Hulu, and other on demand subscription services) and from not buying all those high priced dvds and blu ray disks (just 20 regular dvds pricewise will easily get you a 47" backlit lcd TV), AND ultimately tie it all together via the souped up HDMI out and the high quality ATI Raedon HD 256mb video capability. Indeed, the netbook itself sports a 11.6".backlit LED display, which is clearly (pun intended) superior to the already high quality LCD displays typically found on laptops and netbooks in this price range. I mean, I watched a Netflix movie recently, Reservoir Dogs, and I swear I forgot that the screen was so small! The quality was magnificent.
The only thing I really don't like about this unit is the sound. It's not distorted or anything like that, its just really quiet. But, that's what you should expect on such a small unit ... That's what earbuds and headphones are for. Just picture yourself on a 5 hour cross country flight, as I have taken so many times, with your sweet 11.6" netbook, no problem as carry on since its so small, and you already have your amazon movie in 1080p resolution downloaded to your big hard drive, and no worries with the 6-8 HR long battery life... You're all set, and looking cool too.
Ok, that's my 2 cent's worth on this priceless unit. Remember its the 0722-0609. I saw a 722 series netbook on Amazon with 2GB of ram but a 320GB HD, and the owner recommended getting that one and than spending an extra $30 to upgrade the ram. I personally would get this one instead, with retailers discontinuing these boxes so quickly there's no guarantee that you'll find the RAM... Then again here on Amazon you will most likely find it if its around to be had, right? On the other hand, I for my 0722-0609 on clearance at a local Target for a mere 279 USD plus tax; really inexpensive. Wow.

I bought this laptop to help me learning how to play an electrical drum set. The laptop accomplished the primary objective, but just that. I feel some frustration when running applications that required a little bit of processing power, like Guitar Pro or the game Torchlight II, they actually run but not at the level expected. For the price is a good option for people that only need a portable PC with the basic stuff, like checking Facebook and seing some videos on YouTube. If that is what you need to do, this is the deal. If you need performance you should consider other options. It is small enough, but keep in mind that there's no DVD unit.

this satisfies my requirement for a small + light + cheap device which allows me to connect to the web as well
as being very portable. the audio at times is seems insufficient and could be improved upon. (i am not a fan of ear plugs).
i have found that while using Netflix there is some delay between the video and audio. have not figured out whether this
is to do with the netbook specs or web browser. although the same browser in other laptop works just fine. my netbook is always accessing wi-fi and the battery life appears to be between 4-5hours rather than 7hours.
